Tour de Texas-West

Well, we are on the move again after a long hiatus due to both of us working and this blasted Covid-19.  We've been itching to get to know Texas a little better since we have lived here for 35 years.  So begins our Tour de Texas, headed West.

Our first stop was Lampasas for a few interesting sights.
World's largest spur

Wave

King of Catfish

Then we headed out to Colorado Bend State Park to hike out to Gorman Falls (70 ft).  It's a 1.5 mile route out, that got a little rocky and a little challenging the closer you got to the falls.  But it was worth it!  To go from desert landscape to what looked lush and green like a rainforest at the falls was quite the sight.

Saw this big girl as we entered the park.

We made a quick stop outside San Saba to see the Regency Suspension Bridge. Originally built in 1903, it collapsed under a herd of cattle.  The rebuilt bridge of 1936 washed away in a flood.  The current bridge was built in 1939 and as of 2005 was the last suspension bridge still open to vehicular traffic.  It is 403 ft long and 16 ft wide.

We are staying in San Angelo at The Inn @ The Art Center  (in the Santa Fe room) on the property of the Chicken Farm Art Center.  Our bungalow is surrounded by art studios on what was once a chicken farm.

On our second day in San Angelo, we started with a drive through San Angelo State Park.

Saw these beauties on our drive.

Then it was off to see the International Water Lily Collection.  This was so beautiful.

We walked along the Concho Riverwalk before having lunch.

Seems the Mermaid of the Concho lost her clam shells.

After lunch we checked out the Paint Brush Alley murals.  San Angelo is known for art in uncommon places.

Tonight we enjoyed dinner at the restaurant on the Chicken Farm called Silo House  Restaurant, operated by our hosts at the Inn.  It was DELICIOUS!

Tomorrow we are on the move towards Midland/Odessa, then down to Alpine.
