Number 49-Idaho

The JNL Roadshow has had a goal to travel to all 50 states and we only lack Idaho and Hawaii, so off we want to get number 49 following our Vegas trip.

After flying to Salt Lake City and getting a rental car, we drove to The City of Rocks in southern Idaho. The California Trail ran through this National Reserve. Approximately 240,000 emigrants moved through this area between 1843-1882. Many of them left their names and dates inscribed in axle grease on 22 rocks in the reserve, especially at Camp Rock and Register Rock.

These two boys are 13 & 11 and scaling Elephant Rock. Their dad is already at the top waiting for them.

Scroll in and see the names on the rock.

We made Twin Falls our home base for a few days. While there we visited Shoshone Falls, Twin Falls, Balanced Rock, and watched people base jump off the Perrine Bridge over the Snake River.

Down the road is the site of his famous "failed" attempt to jump the Snake River.

Twin Falls-only the hydroelectric company damned one of the falls years ago so now there is only one.

Balanced Rock-48 ft tall and weighing 40 tons, and sits on a pedestal that is 3 ft by 17 inches

We also visited the Minidoka National Historic Site. During WWII, people of Japanese ancestry were forcibly removed  and detained without due process. 13,000 Japanese Americans were held here at Minidoka in the middle of the desert in Idaho. Not much remains of this "city." At one time it was Idaho's seventh largest city.

On a day trip to Boise, we visited the Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial, the Old Idaho State Penitentiary, Zoo Boise, and had lunch at Westside Drive In which has been featured in Guy Fieri's Diners Drive Ins and Dives show.  Look at my dessert!

LW thought it would be gross eating a baked potato with ice cream on top until he realized the 'potato' was all ice cream too. It looked so real.

A few pictures from the Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial.

Views at the Old Idaho Penitentiary.

What's he in for?

If you violated the penitentiary rules you could be sent to one of these 4x4x4 cells. This is cell #20 called the Dark Cell.

Here are some of my favorite animal sights from Zoo Boise.

Feeding the sloth bear some live mealworms.

Our last day there we went to Shoshone Ice Caves and then on to Craters of the Moon National Preserve.

We left Twin Falls and drove to Blackfoot to visit the Idaho Potato Museum. After the museum we enjoyed fresh cut fries.made from Idaho potatoes.

Look at the cute way they bagged my gift shop purchase.

Now back to Salt Lake City for a few more days.
