Northern Michigan in Winter

This weekend  L and I flew to Detroit to spend the long weekend in Northern Michigan. Yes I know it's winter and there is snow and it is cold and Texas weather is much better...but what's a little adventure if it doesn't get you out of your comfort zone.  Or maybe I mean your warm comfy zone!

A little back story might be needed for those of you thinking we are crazy...
For Christmas we gifted each other a long weekend somewhere. It had to either be somewhere we haven't been or doing something we haven't done. We split the country in half by the Mississippi River and chose the months of January (MLK Day) and April (Easter weekend). L got to plan the month of April and west of the Mississippi and I got to plan January and east of the Mississippi.  So here we are in Michigan in January.

We came to Mackinaw City to visit the Headlands International Dark Sky Park with the hope of catching a small glimpse of the Northern Lights. We arrived in Michigan on the tail end of a snowstorm and it continued to snow all day yesterday. Today has been sunny, clear and 20 degrees. Probably won't see the lights but we are going out to the park after midnight just to see how dark it is out there and hope for a small glimpse.

Tomorrow we will work our way back towards Detroit for our evening flight home. Not sure what stops we will make on the way yet. Here are some pictures of the snow and Mackinaw Bridge
